Today we have launched a new poignant campaign which focuses on some of our beautiful dogs that are currently looking for homes at our Rehoming Centre, some of which have been overlooked thousands of times through no fault of their own, since being rescued by Dogs Trust. All of #TheUnderDogs highlighted in the campaign have been here for at least six months and unfortunately, some have been there much longer. The longest resident Buddy has been overlooked 34,076 times since being rescued.
There are a number of reasons why some dogs might get overlooked. Sometimes, if a dog has had a particularly tough start in life, he might become a little nervous or frightened and need additional care and attention in order to adjust to home life. Other times, a dog might be unfairly judged by his breed but may be the softest soul underneath his appearance. Believe it or not, sometimes black dogs can be overlooked because they do not stand out as much as a lighter coloured dog.
As a part of their moving campaign, Dogs Trust has also launched an emotive video of one of their longest residents Kyia, who arrived in the centre back in 2013. The video highlights how these adorable dogs at the centre are needlessly overlooked and sometimes just need some extra special care and attention, as well as some additional time with their potential new owners before they go home, in order to adapt to family life.
All the staff at Dogs Trust truly love and care for every dog at the centre but would love for them to go to their forever home. The team are desperately trying to find homes for these beautiful characters and know that there is a special someone waiting out there for each and every one of them!
Suzie Carley, Executive Director at Dogs Trust said: "We felt that it was important to highlight these incredible characters in a bid to find homes for them as soon as possible. We cannot understand why certain dogs just seem to get constantly overlooked here at the centre so we want to show people how amazing they are. One particular dog, Camelot, has been overlooked 28,134 times since being rescued, which is so hard to believe as he is such a loveable dog."
