Dog Training Volunteer
Location: Dublin Rehoming Centre

Main Contact: Volunteer Co-Ordinator & Supervisor
Purpose of the Role:
To support and assist the Training and Behaviour Team to ensure dogs in our care are making progress with their rehabilitation plans and therefore their rehoming opportunities are increasing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the training and behaviour team to assess the behaviour of dogs and design and implement Behaviour Modification Plans to enhance each dog’s chances of rehoming.
- Keep records on dog welfare and behaviour and provide reports on dogs’ progress.
- Report any concerns regarding each dog’s health and welfare to centre staff.
- Adhere to centre protocols for the collection of dogs, walking routes and use of exercise compounds.
- Use centre-approved equipment e.g., leads, harnesses, muzzles.
Required Skills:
- Passionate about dogs, dog training and behaviour.
- Experience in training dogs.
- Good level of physical fitness for walking and handling dogs of all shapes, sizes, and strengths, along with other physical duties.
- Excellent face-to-face skills and a confident and friendly manner with the ability to listen.
- Ability to work in a close-knit team or alone.
- Conscientious with a can-do attitude with the ability to follow instruction.

We will provide you with a main contact who will manage your tasks, answer your questions and help you with the volunteer rota, induction, guidance and support, as well as providing opportunities to develop your current skills and gain new ones. We will provide a Dogs Trust uniform, alongside recognition of the role you are carrying out in support of Dogs Trust through our role-specific training opportunities.
