Neutering Scheme Information for Vets

Through a network of Veterinary Practices across Ireland, Dogs Trust offers low-cost neutering to members of the public who are either in receipt of a specific means-tested Social Welfare payment or farmers who have a valid herd or flock number. Members of the public who enquire about the vouchers with our neutering hotline, 1890 946 336, will be directed to a clinic with available vouchers in their area. If you are interested in applying to be a practice on one or both of our neutering schemes, please read below for more details.

Subsidised Neutering Scheme (SNS)

The Subsidised Neutering Scheme is open to dog owners in receipt of specific means-tested Social Welfare payments, who need help covering the cost of neutering their dog. Once the dog owner shows proof of their qualifying payment and pays a €35 client contribution, they can avail of a Subsidised Neutering voucher in a participating Veterinary Practice.

Any veterinary practice that looks after small or companion animals can apply to take part in this scheme. Upon successful application and after signing-up to our Terms & Conditions, the practice will then be eligible to receive Neutering Vouchers from Dogs Trust in one batch or at ad hoc times throughout the year. Vouchers are valid for one calendar year, unless otherwise specified. Members of the public who contact our neutering hotline will be directed to the clinic closest to them that has available vouchers. The person looking to avail of a voucher does not have to be a regular client of the practice and vouchers should be given out on a first-come-first-served basis.

The veterinary practice is responsible for ensuring that the proof of Social Welfare payment shown by the client matches one of those listed on the voucher. Dogs Trust will pay a fixed fee for the balance of the procedure (more details on this are available in the Terms & Conditions).

Farm Dog Neutering Scheme

The Farm Dog Neutering Scheme is open to any farmer with a valid herd or flock number. Once the farmer shows proof of their valid herd or flock number and pays a €20 client contribution, they can avail of a Farm Dog Neutering Voucher in a participating Veterinary Practice.

Any veterinary practice that looks after small and large animals can apply to take part in the Farm Dog Scheme. Upon successful application and after signing-up to our Terms & Conditions, the practice will then be eligible to receive a set number of neutering vouchers that are valid for one calendar year, unless otherwise specified. The farmer looking to avail of the voucher does not have to be a regular client of the practice and vouchers should be given out on a first-come-first-served basis. Please note, the voucher can be used for any dog belonging to the farmer and does not have to be a working dog.

The veterinary practice will be responsible for ensuring that the farmer shows proof of a valid herd or flock number. Dogs Trust will pay a fixed fee for the balance of the procedure (more details on this are available in the Terms & Conditions).
