Sunday on a summer afternoon. Dora is tied to a lamppost — abandoned with a belly full of pups. We know it doesn’t sound like it, but for Dora, that Sunday was a day of miracles, all because of your kindness…

She was frozen in fear, literally frozen,” says Karen, who was the first to kneel by Dora’s side.

Dora was abandoned... tied to a lamppost and left to her fate.

The blue rope tied tightly around her neck. Her skinny frame and swollen belly. Her flea and worm ridden body, Dora’s life had not been a happy one.

But with your love comes miracles. And the moment Dora was brought through our doors, her life changed forever, thanks to you. She just didn’t know it yet.

Cigarette butts and scraps

Exhausted, frightened, in those first days, Dora hardly lifted her head. She’d been eating cigarette butts and rubbish to survive.

Her first days were heartbreaking... she was vomiting up cigarette butts and bits of rubbish. I sat with her for hours — talking to her and offering little bits of chicken. On the third morning, I got to her kennel and she gave me a tiny wag. I thought, okay, I’ve got you... that was really the moment her new life began.

More tragedy for Dora

Dora gave birth a week later. Sadly, four of her pups didn't make it. They were just too fragile. But to the four who lived, Dora was such a kind, devoted mother.

"I burst into tears"

You remember that tight blue rope around Dora’s neck? Well, you won’t be surprised to hear that Dora was terrified of the collar and lead. "It took four weeks of gentle coaxing and encouragement to get her to set paw outside,” says Karen. “When she finally did, I burst into tears.”

Abandoned to aDORAed

Wrapped in your love, Dora bloomed. She discovered the joy of toys — the squeaky ones, the fluffy ones — Dora loves them all!

Her pups were all homed when a lovely family came to meet Dora. “They were her people,” says Karen. “The day she went home with them, I cried again — happy tears!”
