Main Contact: Volunteer Co-Ordinator & Supervisor

Purpose of the Role: 

To support the work of Dogs Trust by assisting the receptionist staff in the centre in ensuring that visitors receive a warm welcome and a pleasant experience ,and tending to our on-site shop to ensure our customers receive the best service, in line with our standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • To warmly greet and welcome all visitors upon arriving at the centre in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • Direct visitors to an appropriate member of Dogs Trust staff to assist them.
  • Assist visitors in understanding the rehoming process and guide them through completing the home finder questionnaire.
  • Help keep literature well stocked in the welcome areas.
  • Tend to the on-site shop when visitors are in the centre during opening hours.
  • Learn how to accept payments for items being purchased in the shop as well as cash reconciliation and handover.
  • Keep a record of stock and sales via our POS system.
  • Restock shelves and price items as necessary.
  • Be knowledgeable about the work of Dogs Trust, specifically, the Rehoming Centre and current fundraising initiatives.

Required Skills: 

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Previous experience working in a customer service environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Confident and friendly manner.
  • Conscientious with a can-do attitude.
  • Able to use own initiative with a common-sense approach to problem-solving.
  • Non-judgemental.
  • Experience in handling cash and accounting accuracy.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • An interest in dogs and dog welfare.

What this role will offer you: 

We will provide you with a main contact who will manage your tasks, answer your questions, and help you with the volunteer rota. We will also provide induction and ongoing role-specific training, guidance and support, as well as an opportunity to develop your current skills and gain new ones. We will provide a Dogs Trust uniform, alongside recognition of the role you are carrying out in support of Dogs Trust.
